Frequently Asked Questions

What size tractor or hydraulic system do I require?

Any medium size tractor or larger can be used, depending on the Kinghitter model.  The physical size & weight of the tractor and whether it has a front-end loader is more important for overall balance than actual horsepower rating. 50hp to 120hp tractors are commonly used.

Recommended Hydraulic Flow: 20-40L/Minute

Recommended Pressure: 2500psi

What is a Safety Postcap?

The Safety Postcap is a plate that mounts between the hammer and the post being driven into the ground. It has a small spike on the underside, which pierces the top of the post, holding it in an upright position and allowing the post to be steered using the postdriver controls. This means that the operator can stand well clear of the post and strike zone while the postdriver is in operation.

As a post is hammered into the ground, the location of the impact zone changes as the top of the post gets lower. To protect the operator from this, a guard is mounted to the safety postcap, which moves with the strike zone, providing protection over the full hammer stroke.

What is a Safety Gate?

The Safety Gate is the main guard between the operator and the work zone. It is mounted on a hinge, which allows the guard to hinge in and out of the work position, allowing the operator to access the work zone when required.

What is the ‘Interchangeable' Hydraulics System?

The ‘interchangeable’ hydraulics system allows Kinghitter drop-hammer Postdrivers to operate at optimum efficiency. The hydraulic oil discharged from the lift ram during hammer fall is recycled within its own system, rather than dumping back to the tractor. This has the following benefits:

  • No High-flow Dump/Case Drain required. One auxiliary circuit with two ½” quick couplers allow quick & easy fitment to any Tractor, Skid steer etc.
  • Requires less hydraulic oil, with reduced heat build-up.
Will the Kinghitter fit my Tractors linkage system?

Kinghitter Postdrivers are setup from the factory with category 2 linkages. Adapter kits are available to fit category 1 & 3 linkages, so that all tractors are compatible.

What is the best accessory solution for my ground conditions?

Kinghitter postdrivers have a range of accessories to ensure that posts can be driven in any type of ground.

The Rockspike Kit is a common option in extremely rocky ground. The system positions a solid steel spike underneath the hammer, which is then driven into the ground, smashing through rocks and creating a pilot hole for the post.

Kinghitter’s Auger system is also suitable for use in difficult ground conditions, including blue clay, hard pan, sandstone and much more.

See more details & options on accessories page.

Why are Kinghitter Postdrivers More Efficient?

A crucial element of Kinghitter’s hard hitting and highly efficient drop-hammer postdrivers is in the wire rope & pulley hammer lift design. This system has a multiplication ratio of 6:1, meaning that for every 100mm of the lift ram stoke, the Hammer moves 600mm. resulting in:

  • Increased hammer speed – Lift & Drop
  • Increased Hammer stroke length.
  • Lift Ram is isolated from hammer vibration and impact.
  • Reduced Friction
How do I store my Kinghitter Postdriver?

All Kinghitter postdrivers can be stored easily. An A-frame stand is available as an accessory, or a post can also be used. Simply drive [an appropriately sized] post into the ground at a safe storage destination, then tie the machine onto the post before disconnecting the linkages. Kinghitters that are fitted to a Terminator or Dominator Base are free standing.

Is it easy to align posts with a Kinghitter?

Kinghitter postdrivers are fitted as standard with a safety post cap, which secures the post in position while it is being driven. This allows the operator to steer the post using the postdriver controls and prevents the need of pushing or pulling on the post with a podgy bar.

Hydraulic side tilt & top link are fitted as standard to provide infinite post direction control, up to 25 degrees any direction.
